Stewart to Retire After Completing His Mission in Cyprus

Colin Stewart, the United Nations Secretary-General’s Special Adviser on Cyprus and Head of the UN Peacekeeping Force in Cyprus (UNFICYP), is expected to conclude his mission on the island this summer. Stewart, who took over the role from Elizabeth Spehar at the end of 2021, will retire after completing his service in Cyprus.

Fileleftheros newspaper reported that Stewart has fulfilled his duties on the island and, according to sources, will retire, marking Cyprus as his final post.

The newspaper also noted that the process to appoint his successor has already begun, highlighting Stewart’s Canadian nationality and recalling that he assumed the position at the end of 2021.
