Alithia newspaper reported that the British Bases cited high levels of enterococci bacteria in the water and urged the public to avoid swimming there. In contrast, the Republic’s Department of Environment dismissed these claims.

The Environment Department Director, Theodoulos Mesimeris, told the Cyprus News Agency (KIPA) that tests conducted on samples taken from Lady’s Mile Beach on Friday showed no signs of pollution, with results released yesterday confirming the water’s safety.

Mesimeris added that samples are regularly collected from 123 beaches every 15 days, and that new samples from Lady’s Mile Beach would be taken tomorrow for further testing.

Despite this, the British Bases expressed dissatisfaction with Mesimeris’ statement and reiterated their call to avoid swimming at Lady’s Mile until the issue is fully resolved.
