Voicing support for Mete Hatay’s recent critique of the Republic’s citizenship practices, Şenkul highlighted the contradiction through a personal example. He stated that although both of his sons were born to the same mother and father, only the son born in Ankara was granted Republic of Cyprus citizenship, while his son born in Kyrenia was denied.

Şenkul expressed his frustration on social media, questioning the logic behind the decision:

A more striking example might be our own case: same mother, same father—the mother was born in Turkey. My son born in Ankara has citizenship; the one born in Kyrenia does not.

How can anyone possibly explain such nonsense?”
