Memur-Sen Slams Fuel Price Hike, Urges Government to Provide Subsidies

Mehmet Mutlu, Secretary General of the Cyprus Turkish Civil Servants' Union (Memur-Sen), has strongly criticised the recent fuel price hike, which was attributed to currency fluctuations, warning that it will have negative repercussions across key sectors. He called on the government to cover the price increases using the Price Stabilisation Fund and to enhance regulatory oversight.

In a written statement, Mutlu stressed that the increase in fuel prices would adversely affect public transport, agriculture, basic food production, and the dairy industry.

Mutlu urged the government to take more effective measures to monitor prices of essential food items and to ensure the public’s access to healthy nutrition. He also called for immediate action to address the shortage of medicines in public hospitals.
