Speeding Tops List of Offenses During Police Traffic and Security Checks in Nicosia and Famagusta

During simultaneous traffic and public order inspections conducted by police between 10:00 p.m. and midnight yesterday in Nicosia and Famagusta, speeding was the most frequently reported violation.

According to a police press release, in Nicosia, entertainment venues, establishments selling alcoholic beverages, nightclubs, and crowded public areas were inspected with no irregularities found. However, in casino checks, 13 individuals banned from entering or being present in casinos were identified and legal action was taken against them.

Traffic inspections in Nicosia covered 1,590 drivers. Among them, 101 were reported for speeding, 41 for driving without a registration certificate, 23 for not wearing seat belts, 14 for driving uninspected vehicles, one for driving without a license and insurance, and one for driving an uninsured vehicle. Additionally, one driver was fined for running a red light, one for riding a motorcycle without a protective helmet, four for using a mobile phone while driving, and 130 for other traffic violations.

A total of 318 drivers were reported for various traffic offenses, and 53 vehicles were impounded.

In Famagusta, inspections covered entertainment venues, alcohol-selling establishments, and crowded areas, with no issues detected.

Casino checks revealed 18 individuals banned from casinos, who were subsequently subjected to legal action.

Traffic inspections in Famagusta involved 1,550 drivers. Of these, 146 were fined for speeding, 27 for driving without registration certificates, 13 for driving uninspected vehicles, 12 for uninsured vehicles, five for unauthorized public transport operations, five for using a mobile phone while driving, three for driving under the influence of alcohol, two for driving without a license and insurance, two for not wearing seat belts, and 91 for other traffic offenses.

In total, 306 drivers in Famagusta were reported for traffic violations, and 34 vehicles were impounded.
