Akpınar also proposed diplomatic action at the European Union and United Nations levels in response to a series of property-related international arrest warrants issued in the south.

Speaking on BRT, Akpınar argued that the situation had escalated to a new level: “When one of our own is arrested because of a complaint filed by someone we do not know or recognise, it changes the entire picture. I believe the opposition must also pull itself together now.”

Commenting on recent legal actions reportedly stemming from property claims in the south, Akpınar posed a rhetorical question: “What can the government do in this situation?” He responded by urging swift diplomatic engagement, especially given the presence of the UN Secretary-General’s Special Representative on the island.

“If the Greek Cypriot side continues to take illegitimate steps, we must raise the issue at the EU and the UN. I understand that the Foreign Ministry is already engaged in discussions. But we don’t know what next steps will be taken or under what agenda.”

Calling for a more assertive stance, Akpınar said, “All negotiations with the Greek Cypriot side should be halted. We must form our own national council… And the crossings must be closed. The other side is filing lawsuits.”

Akpınar’s remarks drew immediate attention due to their potential implications for ongoing intercommunal relations and freedom of movement across the island.
