Suspect in Fatal Traffic Accident Released on Bail

İbrahim Tımbıl, the driver arrested in connection with the fatal traffic accident that claimed the life of Rifat Gezici in Pınarbaşı, has been released on bail set at 50,000 TL. The decision was handed down by Judge Evren Mürsel at the Kyrenia District Court following the completion of the initial phase of the investigation.

Police Sergeant Nadir Timuçin, presenting the case in court, stated that the accident occurred on May 17, 2025, at around 6:00 p.m. on 15 Kasım Street. Tımbıl, driving a Toyota Vitz with license plate RA 728, allegedly attempted to turn into a relative’s residence without yielding to oncoming traffic. During the maneuver, his vehicle was struck by a Suzuki Hayabusa motorcycle, license plate ZJ 128, driven by Rifat Gezici of Nicosia, who was reportedly traveling at excessive speed.
According to the police, the collision caused Tımbıl’s vehicle to spin and come to a stop on the left side of the road, facing east. The motorcycle veered off the road due to the impact, landing in a nearby field, resting on its left side and facing north.
Both drivers were rushed to the emergency room of Nicosia's Dr. Burhan Nalbantoğlu State Hospital. Gezici succumbed to his injuries, while Tımbıl was treated and discharged the same day. He was subsequently arrested under a warrant obtained from the Kyrenia District Court and detained at Kyrenia Central Police Station.
Timuçin noted that during the investigation, several security camera recordings were reviewed. Tımbıl was brought before the court on May 18 and remanded for two days. After a further three-day remand on May 20, he was kept under hospital observation for three days due to high blood pressure. The police stated that the part of the investigation that the suspect could influence has been completed and requested his release on bail.
Judge Mürsel ruled that Tımbıl must remain in the country, report to the police once a week, pay 50,000 TL in cash bail, and provide two guarantors, each signing a 500,000 TL surety bond.
