Şahali: Our Struggle to Protect and Advance the Rights of Turkish Cypriots Continues to Grow

Republican Turkish Party (CTP) Secretary General Erkut Şahali announced the conclusion of the Socialist International Council meetings held over the past two days in Istanbul, affirming that “our struggle to protect and advance the rights of the Turkish Cypriot people continues to grow every day and on every platform.”

In a statement shared on social media, Şahali said the meetings addressed all aspects of wars, the crisis of democracy, the pursuit of justice, and human rights violations.
Şahali also highlighted the resolution jointly prepared by the CTP and the Social Democrat Party (TDP), which was unanimously adopted by the Council. The resolution strongly emphasized that the Cyprus problem should be resolved on the basis of a bi-zonal, bi-communal federation that ensures the political equality of the two communities.
The resolution further called on Cypriot leaders to return to the negotiating table under the auspices of the United Nations, supported the opening of new crossing points as part of confidence-building measures, underlined the need to safeguard the rights of individuals born from mixed marriages, and rejected any progress in the Schengen process that disregards the rights of the Turkish Cypriot people.
Şahali concluded, “Across the country and around the world, our struggle to protect and advance the rights of the Turkish Cypriot people continues to grow every day and on every platform.”
