Emphasizing the importance of continued cooperation, Harmancı stated, “We must continue working on every platform for our island and our community by strengthening bridges of dialogue and solidarity.”

Harmancı participated in the Working Dinner of the Socialist International’s Local and Regional Authorities Network, held in Istanbul. The meeting was attended by Spanish Prime Minister and President of the Socialist International Pedro Sánchez, Republican People’s Party (CHP) leader Özgür Özel, Mayor of Athens Haris Doukas, and several mayors from major cities across Turkey.

Sharing his reflections on social media, Harmancı noted that the Turkish Cypriot community is significantly affected by developments in Turkey. He underlined that despite the Republic of Cyprus being a member of the European Union, the ceasefire status on the island remains in place, and called for a lasting solution to the Cyprus problem without further delay.

Stressing that peace is vital not only for Cyprus but for stability across the region, Harmancı pointed to the crucial role city diplomacy can play. He stated that he proposed a dialogue initiative between Istanbul, Athens and Nicosia, and observed a positive response from Athens Mayor Haris Doukas.

In a brief exchange with Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez, Harmancı drew attention to the Schengen process of the Republic of Cyprus, stressing the need for serious consideration of the matter and pointing out that Turkish Cypriots are excluded from such processes.

Concluding his remarks, Harmancı noted the importance of exchanging views on the Cyprus issue with prominent participants, and reiterated, “We must continue working on every platform for our island and our community by strengthening bridges of dialogue and solidarity.”
