YDP Announces Unanimous Support for Tatar

The Rebirth Party’s (YDP) Party Assembly has unanimously decided to endorse independent candidate Ersin Tatar in the upcoming presidential election scheduled for October.

During the Party Assembly meeting, YDP leader and Minister of Public Works and Transport Erhan Arıklı emphasized the party’s longstanding opposition to a federal solution to the Cyprus issue. The decision to support Tatar, who previously announced his independent candidacy, was officially ratified with signatures.
Following the vote, Arıklı made a statement underscoring the ideological nature of the election:
“In this presidential election, it is not about individuals—it is about two competing visions. On one side are the federalists, on the other, the republicans. YDP was founded on the principle that ‘federation is a grave for Turkish Cypriots.’ Today, both Turkey and the TRNC have officially rejected federation, aligning with YDP’s stance. A federalist victory would mean a loss for Turkey. For us, when it comes to the homeland—especially the motherland—everything else is secondary. That is why we have chosen our side.”
