Erhürman’s Phone Retrieved from Sea: Suspects Released on Bail

Fuat Özkurt and Deniz Özkılıç, the suspects who reportedly picked up and then threw CTP leader Tufan Erhürman’s mobile phone into the sea, were released on bail of 15,000 TL each.

The pair appeared before the court again, where police officer Mustafa Gözbaşı presented the facts of the case. According to the police, on May 24, 2025, at around 8:40 PM, the suspects stole Erhürman’s phone after finding it dropped in the parking area of a restaurant in the Metehan area.
The suspects later travelled to Kyrenia and deliberately damaged the phone by throwing it into the sea from the rear side of the historic Kyrenia Castle.
Police stated that the suspects were identified through security camera footage and confessed to the crime.
Based on their confession, divers from the Police Special Operations Directorate of the Nicosia Police Department retrieved the phone from the sea at the location indicated by the suspects on May 26.
The investigation has now been completed. The police noted that the suspects are residing in the country as students and requested bail.
Judge Nuray Necdet, assessing the testimony, ruled that the suspects be prohibited from leaving the country, required to report to a police station once every two weeks, post 15,000 TL in cash bail each, and sign personal surety bonds worth 200,000 TL each.
