Holguin to Remain on the Island Until May 31

UN Secretary-General’s Personal Envoy for Cyprus, Maria Angela Holguin, continues her contacts on the island as part of renewed diplomatic efforts to resolve the Cyprus issue.

Holguin has recently held meetings with the negotiation teams of both sides and has also engaged with the Cultural and Environmental Technical Committees.
Today, she is scheduled to meet with members of the Youth Technical Committee and representatives from various diplomatic circles.
UN Spokesperson Stéphane Dujarric, speaking at UN headquarters in New York, stated that Holguin’s goal is to achieve tangible progress by the end of July. He confirmed that she will remain in Cyprus until May 31.
Dujarric noted that during her meetings with President Nikos Christodoulides and Turkish Cypriot leader Ersin Tatar, Holguin listened to the leaders’ concerns and reviewed the confidence-building measures agreed upon during the last meeting held in Geneva in March.
He emphasized that Holguin’s aim is to work with both sides to deliver results ahead of her next meeting with the UN Secretary-General, scheduled for the end of July.
Dujarric also noted that Holguin will hold discussions with representatives of other stakeholders involved in the Cyprus issue, including the guarantor powers: Greece, Turkey, and the United Kingdom.
