Three Drivers Found to Be Drunk in Four Traffic Accidents

Three people were injured in four separate traffic accidents that occurred within 24 hours in Gönyeli and Famagusta, with three of the involved drivers found to be under the influence of alcohol. Legal proceedings have been initiated against the drunk drivers, and investigations are ongoing.

According to the police press office, the accidents took place on May 29 and 30, with three individuals sustaining injuries. Of the four drivers involved, three were confirmed to be intoxicated. Those injured were taken to hospital for observation, while police investigations continue.

Chain-Reaction Crash During Traffic Jam in Gönyeli

At around 8:30 p.m. on May 29, a chain-reaction collision occurred on Atatürk Avenue in Gönyeli. Fikri Irız (38), who was found to have 140 milligrams of alcohol in his system, was driving eastbound in a careless manner in a vehicle with license plate NV 340. As he approached the area in front of Kiler Market, he collided with a vehicle bearing license plate VK 031, driven by Aytaç Sümbül (49), which had stopped due to traffic congestion. No injuries were reported. Legal proceedings have been launched against Irız for driving under the influence and causing a traffic accident. The investigation is ongoing.

Drunk Driver Involved in Crash in Famagusta

At approximately 9:00 p.m. on May 29, a crash occurred on İsmet İnönü Boulevard in Famagusta. Mohamed Anwer Mahmud Abid (24), driving a vehicle with license plate ZUB 480, was found to have 59 milligrams of alcohol in his system. While driving southbound, he crashed into the vehicle ahead near Terranova due to careless driving. The other driver involved was Nihat Deniz (45). No injuries were reported. Legal proceedings have been initiated against Abid for driving under the influence and causing an accident. The investigation is ongoing.

Three Injured in Gönyeli After Driver Fails to Yield at Roundabout

At around 11:00 p.m. on May 29, a serious accident occurred on Şehit Hüseyin Amca Street in Gönyeli. Fatma Akyürek (42), driving a vehicle with license plate VH 632, failed to yield at the Alayköy Roundabout on the Nicosia-Morphou Highway and entered the roundabout without stopping. Her vehicle collided with another car, license plate DR 695, driven by Adem Boz (22), who was traveling east within the roundabout. Due to the impact, Akyürek’s vehicle veered off and hit the sidewalk.

Fatma Akyürek and two passengers in her vehicle, Bilal Akyürek (12) and Firdevs Akyürek (13), were injured and taken to Nicosia Dr. Burhan Nalbantoğlu State Hospital for observation. Police investigations are ongoing.

Drunk Driving Incident in Famagusta in the Early Hours

At around 3:00 a.m. on May 30, another alcohol-related accident occurred on the service road in front of the Caddem Inn Hotel in Famagusta. İsmet Arslan (23), found to be under the influence of 140 milligrams of alcohol, was driving eastbound in a vehicle with license plate MY 393 when he lost control and crashed into the awning pole at the entrance of Caddem Restaurant, as well as into nearby flower pots and a garbage bin. No injuries were reported. Legal proceedings have been initiated against Arslan for drunk driving and causing an accident. The investigation is ongoing.
