Tatar: “The TRNC Is an Independent Turkish State”

President Ersin Tatar welcomed the delegation of the Women’s Summit of the Parliamentary Assembly of Turkic States (TÜRKPA) at the Presidential Complex.

The delegation included Tamam Jafarova, Member of Azerbaijan’s National Assembly and Chair of the TÜRKPA Women Parliamentarians Group; Zeynep Yıldız, Ankara MP and Chair of the TÜRKPA Women’s Group (3rd Term); and TÜRKPA Secretary-General Mehmet Süreyya Er.
President Tatar expressed his pleasure to host the TÜRKPA women parliamentarians in the TRNC. He emphasized ongoing efforts to strengthen the TRNC’s top-level relations with Turkey and expand ties within the Turkic world, highlighting Turkey’s full support in promoting the TRNC internationally.
Tatar addressed the injustices and embargoes faced by the Turkish Cypriot people, noting that despite goodwill for 60 years, the Cyprus problem remains unresolved due to the Greek Cypriots’ uncompromising stance.
He noted continued investments across sectors including tourism, education, and agriculture, and said the TRNC is confidently advancing towards becoming an information technology hub with Turkey’s support.
Highlighting the TRNC’s strategic position in the “Blue Homeland,” Tatar described Cyprus as central to the Turkic world and expressed belief that, with an agreement, the island could rapidly develop into a prosperous and attractive center like Dubai.
Recalling Cyprus’s rich cultural and historical heritage, Tatar mentioned the national struggle years when many Turkish Cypriots emigrated, with over one million now living outside the island.
He firmly stated, “We are not a minority people, and we never accept that. The TRNC is an independent Turkish state.”
Tatar also praised women, especially mothers, for their valuable presence in every field and said their successes bring pride. He sent greetings to the leaders of the Turkic world.
TÜRKPA Secretary-General Mehmet Süreyya Er described the summit as historically significant and emphasized ongoing cooperation.
Tamam Jafarova thanked the hosts, underscored the importance of strengthening relations with the TRNC, and pledged continued collaboration and support.
Zeynep Yıldız expressed gratitude for the reception, conveyed greetings from the friendly and brotherly Turkic world, and noted that the summit of 41 participants from nine countries was very productive. She stated the TRNC set a high standard and thanked President Tatar.
The event concluded with the exchange of gifts and a commemorative photo.
