Six Traffic Accidents Reported: Four Linked to Drunk Driving

NICOSIA

At approximately 03:45 today, 28-year-old Burhan Katırcıoğlu lost control of his vehicle (DS 220) while driving toward Nicosia on the Nicosia–Famagusta highway. The vehicle veered off the road and overturned. Katırcıoğlu was injured and taken to Dr. Burhan Nalbantoğlu State Hospital for treatment. An investigation is underway.

KYRENIA

At around 00:15 the same day, 53-year-old Hasan Poyrazlı, under the influence of 128 milligrams of alcohol, lost control of his motorcycle (VE 297) while heading toward Kyrenia on the Kyrenia–Alsancak bypass. He struck an earthen embankment and was first treated at Dr. Akçiçek Hospital before being transferred to Dr. Burhan Nalbantoğlu State Hospital, where he remains under observation in the Cardiovascular Surgery Department. The investigation continues.

At 21:15 yesterday, 31-year-old Fatih Can, driving a truck (TZD 721) under the influence of 119 milligrams of alcohol, attempted to enter the main road from a petrol station on the Kyrenia–Tatlısu highway and crashed into a steel barrier. No injuries were reported. The investigation is ongoing.

LEFKE

At 17:10 the same day, in Gaziveren, 73-year-old Cemal Doğan collided with another vehicle while entering Gül Street without yielding on Mine Street. Doğan, riding a motorcycle (KE 951), struck a car (NB 009) driven by 45-year-old Gül Deney. He was diagnosed with a hip fracture and transferred from Cengiz Topel State Hospital to Dr. Burhan Nalbantoğlu State Hospital, where he is being treated in the Orthopedics Department. An investigation is in progress.

Later that night at 23:20, in Yedidalga, 27-year-old Servet Berde, under the influence of 303 milligrams of alcohol, lost control of his vehicle (HD 350) while driving toward Gemikonağı and crashed into a residential garden wall and an electric pole. Berde was arrested for driving under the influence and causing an accident. The investigation is ongoing.

At 23:45 the same night, on the Güzelyurt–Lefke highway, 29-year-old Tolgan Altıntaş, driving with 144 milligrams of alcohol in his system, lost control of his vehicle (SG 526) at the Doğancı roundabout and hit an embankment. No injuries were reported. Altıntaş was arrested, and the investigation continues.
