The amendment to the Regulation on the Principles and Procedures for the Allocation of Special Licence Plates to Motor Vehicles was published in the Official Gazette on 28 May 2025 and has officially entered into force.

Under the new regulation, all vehicles engaged in paid passenger transport will display licence plates featuring the letter "T" at the beginning of the letter and number combination on both the front and rear plates.

Aydın: Transition to New Plate Format by End of June

Speaking to TAK, Traffic Department Director Ahmet Aydın said that the transition to the new plate system is expected to take place by the end of June.

Aydın noted that the current plate format (two letters followed by three numbers, e.g. AA 001) is nearing exhaustion. To address this, the Council of Ministers has approved a new format: two letters, three numbers, and an additional letter (e.g. AA 001 A).

He added that the plates currently being issued begin with "ZU," and that the transition to the new system will depend on the pace of plate issuance, with the change likely to occur by the end of the month.
