Two Drunk Driving Accidents Occur in Northern Cyprus, No Injuries Reported

According to a statement from the Police Press Office, on June 9, 2025, two separate traffic accidents involving intoxicated drivers took place in Northern Cyprus. Although there were no casualties or injuries, both drivers were arrested.

The first accident happened around 6:30 a.m. near a petrol station on Dr. Fazıl Küçük Boulevard in Nicosia. Ersin Artaç, 24, was driving his vehicle with license plate PH 308 southbound under the influence of alcohol with a blood alcohol level of 141 milligrams. While carelessly turning into an unnamed street, Artaç collided with a parked truck owned by Mahmut Sagün, bearing license plate MJ 383. No injuries were reported in the incident.
The second accident occurred around 2:00 p.m. on the Gazimağusa-Karpaz main road between kilometers 13 and 14. Murat Savcı, 51, driving vehicle ZPZ 879 under the influence of alcohol with a blood alcohol level of 53 milligrams, failed to yield to a vehicle coming from the right near Granel Roundabout. He collided with a vehicle driven by Hüseyin Soydemir, license plate ZSV 053, causing the accident.
Both drivers were arrested for driving under the influence and causing accidents. Police investigations are ongoing.
