“Fake Diploma” Trial at KSTU Postponed to June 27

The trial of Serdal Gündüz, Barış Sel, Amir Shakerifard, and assistant Berk Özbek—who are being prosecuted as part of the “fake diploma and corruption” investigation at Cyprus Health and Social Sciences University (KSTU)—has been postponed to June 27.

Barış Sel, who was serving as Famagusta Police Chief at the time of the investigation and is currently on trial without detention, appeared once again before the Nicosia Assize Court today, along with Serdal Gündüz, the university’s secretary-general and one of its shareholders.

The Nicosia Assize Court postponed the case to Friday, June 27.

Lawyer Mustafa Uluğ appeared in court representing defence attorneys Doğa Zeki and Mustafa Asena.

At the initial hearing held at the Güzelyurt District Court, two witnesses were heard and 24 exhibits were submitted. Barış Sel faced 20 charges, while Serdal Gündüz was charged with 14 offences.

KSTU Case Also Postponed to June 27

In the same investigation, Serdal Gündüz, international office officer Amir Shakerifard, and assistant Berk Özbek were also brought once again before the Nicosia Assize Court today.

Defence lawyers Hasan Yücelen, Doğa Zeki, and Talat Tanca were present at the hearing. The court postponed their case to Friday, June 27 as well.

The defendants face numerous charges, including “obtaining money by fraud,” “fraud,” “forging and circulating false documents,” “manipulating accounts and committing fraud,” “money laundering,” “inducing the issuance of fake bank payment orders,” and “theft by an employee.”
