Government Reclaims Land Allocated for New Cemetery in Nicosia, LTB Reacts Strongly

A plot of land previously allocated to the Nicosia Turkish Municipality (LTB) for the construction of a new cemetery has been reclaimed by the government through a Cabinet decision, prompting sharp criticism from LTB Mayor Mehmet Harmancı.

Announcing the decision on his personal social media account, Harmancı stated that the land, which had been allocated for a new burial site and had already seen millions of lira in investment, was taken back without any prior notice to the municipality.
“Anyone who thinks this matter ends here is gravely mistaken,” Harmancı said, adding that the land had been transformed from a mountainous area into usable terrain through municipal investment funded by public taxes.
“We will not let you seize what belongs to the people of Nicosia,” he declared.
Labeling the decision as "brazen and unlawful," Harmancı vowed to challenge it both legally and politically. “We will prove your lawlessness in court and make these arenas politically unbearable for you. The gauntlet is thrown,” he added defiantly.
