Man Fined ₺173,876 for Forcing Rooster to Smoke and Drink Rakı
A man who was seen in a widely condemned social media video forcing a rooster to smoke a cigarette and drink rakı has been fined ₺173,876 for violating the Animal Welfare Law.
The incident took place in Demirhan, a village near Nicosia. Following the circulation of the footage, the Demirhan Police Station under the Lefkoşa Police Department launched an investigation and identified the suspect. Authorities confirmed that he had violated the Animal Welfare Law.
The Veterinary Department subsequently issued an administrative fine of ₺173,876.
The case drew strong public condemnation, and officials emphasized that efforts to combat animal cruelty will continue.
