22 Fires in One Week Across TRNC

The Fire Department has reported that 22 fires and 25 special service incidents occurred across the TRNC in the past week.

According to the statement, the fires that broke out between June 9 and 15 caused an estimated total damage of 4,182,100 TL.

The probable causes of the fires included electrical short circuits, intentional burning for cleaning purposes, spontaneous combustion of hay bales due to fermentation, discarded cigarette butts, sparks from power lines igniting dry grass, oil left on active stoves catching fire, and a lighter left on a driver’s seat igniting due to sunlight exposure.

The special service incidents involved rescuing individuals trapped in elevators; cats stuck in engine compartments, manholes, trees, apartment floors, metal piles, or the upper floors of unfinished buildings; a pigeon trapped in a tree; a kid (young goat) that had fallen into a deep well; people trapped in vehicles after traffic accidents; and the transportation of deceased individuals to hospital for forensic investigation.

Of the 22 fires, 6 occurred in Kyrenia, 4 in Nicosia, 3 in Famagusta, 3 in Geçitkale, 2 in Vadili, 2 in İskele, 1 in Yeşilköy, and 1 in Morphou. The 25 special service incidents included 8 in Nicosia, 8 in Kyrenia, 3 in Çağlayan, 3 in Famagusta, 2 in İskele, and 1 in Morphou.
