Three Accidents Involving Drunk Drivers Leave Four Injured

Four people were injured in three separate traffic accidents that occurred in Nicosia, Ağıllar, and Famagusta on June 15–16, involving two intoxicated drivers. The drunk drivers have been taken into custody, police reported.

Two Injured in Chain Collision in Nicosia

On June 15 at around 6:00 p.m., a traffic accident occurred on Osman Örek Street in Nicosia. Ahmet Süleyman Uzun (26), driving a LY 769 plated car eastbound, attempted to change into the first lane carelessly and struck the rear of a ZF 691 plated motorcycle driven by Yılmaz Demir (27), who was traveling in the same direction.

The impact caused Uzun to lose control of his vehicle, which then hit the curb and came to a stop after colliding with the median’s steel barriers. Both drivers were injured and taken to Dr. Burhan Nalbantoğlu State Hospital. Uzun was placed under observation in the ENT department, while Demir, who suffered a broken left arm, was monitored in the orthopedics ward. The investigation is ongoing.

Drunk Driver Crashes in Ağıllar

At approximately 8:00 p.m. in Ağıllar village, Şenol Ay (55), under the influence of 121 milligrams of alcohol, lost control of his SJ 160 plated vehicle while driving northbound and struck a company signboard. Although there were no injuries, Ay was arrested for driving under the influence and causing an accident. Police are continuing their investigation.

Three Injured in Multi-Vehicle Crash at Bahçeler Junction

On the morning of June 16 at around 7:00 a.m., a chain-reaction accident involving three vehicles occurred at the Bahçeler Junction on the Famagusta–Karpaz Highway. Hasan Kebapcı (69), driving a PM 439 plated vehicle, failed to yield while entering the main road and collided with a YJ 258 plated vehicle driven by Çağdaş Pala (29), who was under the influence of 159 milligrams of alcohol.

The collision caused Kebapcı’s vehicle to crash into a waiting EZ 740 plated car driven by Genç Ali Kırmızıyüz (29). The third vehicle came to a stop after hitting the median and a traffic sign.

Hasan Kebapcı and passenger Meryem Kebapcı (67) were treated in the emergency department. Pala, who sustained a broken right wrist, was treated and released. He was arrested for drunk driving and causing an accident. The investigation continues.
