Akansoy: The Left Must Reclaim Its Leading Role in Society

Republican Turkish Party (CTP) MP Asım Akansoy made key remarks during a televised appearance on Kanal SİM, highlighting the need for the left to once again assume a leading role in shaping the country's political direction. Reflecting on the past, Akansoy expressed nostalgia for the period when the Communal Democracy Party (TDP) was represented in parliament.

He emphasised that the left must take the initiative in societal leadership, suggesting that it should "prepare the groundwork and then take a step back" to allow for broader engagement. As part of CTP’s preparations for the upcoming presidential elections, Akansoy noted that the party is actively consulting with left-wing parties, civil society organisations, and individuals.
Recalling his time in parliament alongside figures such as Zeki Çeler, Cemal Özyiğit, and Hüseyin Angolemli, Akansoy said that period was marked by more dynamic and diverse political debate within the opposition. He argued that such pluralism within the opposition contributed positively to the political landscape and provided meaningful gains.
