Çeler Calls for Peace Amid Rising Tensions in the Middle East

Zeki Çeler, leader of the Communal Democracy Party (TDP), issued a statement on social media calling for peace and dialogue in response to escalating tensions between Israel and Iran and the wider regional conflict.

Warning that the Middle East has become a "ring of fire," Çeler emphasized that the island of Cyprus is positioned at the heart of these dangerous developments. Referring to ongoing violence, he noted the missiles and bombs targeting civilians in recent days and highlighted the continuing humanitarian crisis in Palestine. He also expressed concern over the unfolding situations in Lebanon and Syria.
Çeler stressed the critical importance of diplomacy and dialogue, noting their relevance to issues ranging from the right to life and economic stability to public safety and the future of younger generations.
Expressing concern over Cyprus’s security in this volatile context, Çeler criticised the stance taken by the Greek Cypriot administration, which he described as partisan and risky for the entire island. He urged for a strong and clear demand for peace and resolution to be voiced across the island.
Concluding his statement, Çeler called on both the communities in Cyprus and the guarantor states to take immediate action. He appealed for the message of peace to be shared with the international community and for efforts toward mediation to be launched without delay, declaring, "There is no such thing as a good war or a bad peace."
