“Missile Launches Visible from Cyprus Show Danger Is Close” — PM Üstel says

Prime Minister Ünal Üstel has addressed recent developments both globally and locally, highlighting the escalating tensions in the region following the Iran-Israel conflict.

Üstel warned, “The missile launches exchanged during the night, visible from Cyprus, demonstrate how close the danger is, even though we are not a party to the conflict.”
He praised Turkey’s diplomatic role in promoting peace in various international conflicts, including the Ukraine-Russia war, calling it a sign of successful foreign policy.
Discussing the TRNC’s status, Üstel said, “Although political recognition beyond Turkey has not yet been achieved, our presence in the Eastern Mediterranean is acknowledged. We must closely monitor regional developments and take the necessary measures in coordination with Turkey.”
On property disputes, Üstel emphasized the importance of legal solutions: “The European Court of Human Rights confirmed that the Immovable Property Commission is a valid domestic legal remedy for property claims in the north. The TRNC is a state of law, and we are committed to resolving these issues through legal channels while respecting individual rights.”
He criticized the Greek Cypriot Administration for obstructing the Commission’s work, stating, “They refuse to accept the inclusion of immovable properties in the 1975 Population Exchange Agreement and have sought to block the Commission since its inception.”
Üstel also underscored the TRNC’s economic development: “The real estate sector is a vital part of our economy. After 1974, our people should not have to live in tents again. We will continue to strengthen our state and create a peaceful environment for our citizens and businesses.”
The Prime Minister concluded by affirming his government’s proactive approach, saying, “We have not been passive observers. Our duty is to solve problems and advance the TRNC as a country where people can live without fear for the future.”
