Around 5 Tons of Smuggled Meat Seized in Police Operation

Approximately five tons of smuggled meat were seized during a police operation conducted early this morning between Gaziköy and Paşaköy. The “Kapan Operation,” carried out by the Crime Prevention Unit (CÖŞ) of the Nicosia Police Directorate, targeted a van suspected of transporting illegal goods.

According to the police bulletin, the operation took place at around 2:00 AM. Inside the van, officers discovered roughly 5 tons of red meat—both beef and lamb—bearing South Cyprus inspection stamps. The meat was found to have been transported under unsanitary conditions and had not been declared to customs authorities.
Further investigation led to the identification and arrest of the vehicle’s owner, a 40-year-old man with the initials O.Ş.
The police investigation is ongoing.
