One-Month Remand for Tourist Accused of Assault and Property Damage

Roland Rackaukas, a Lithuanian national visiting the TRNC as a tourist, has been remanded in custody for up to one month by Judge Nuray Necdet. Rackaukas faces charges of assaulting a police officer, trespassing, and causing intentional property damage in Gönyeli.

Police officer Mehmet Davulcu told the court that the incident occurred on 14 June 2025 at around 10:40 p.m. According to his testimony, Rackaukas went to the residence of N.B. and began banging on the door and behaving aggressively. When N.B. partially opened the door, Rackaukas allegedly forced his way inside. Once inside the apartment, he reportedly broke three coffee cups and one glass, causing damages estimated at 250 TL.
Following a complaint, two officers from the Gönyeli Police Station arrived at the scene and attempted to arrest the suspect. During the arrest, Rackaukas allegedly struck one of the officers in the mouth with his left arm, causing a tear to the officer’s tongue.
The suspect was subdued using reasonable force. A breathalyser test later revealed a blood alcohol level of 239‰. Police also stated that Rackaukas had entered the TRNC from the Republic of Cyprus on 3 June 2025 on a tourist visa.
During a court-ordered search of his residence, police discovered 0.5 milligrams of a controlled substance, which was seized as evidence.
Rackaukas had already appeared in court twice and had been held in custody for seven days while police completed their investigation. With the inquiry now concluded, police requested that he remain in detention pending trial.
The court granted the request and ordered that Rackaukas remain in prison for a period not exceeding one month.
