In a written statement addressing regional developments and current issues, Hasipoğlu noted that Iran had requested an urgent session of the UN Security Council (UNSC) to examine and condemn the US attack on Iran. He said, “The targeting of nuclear facilities with missiles in this ongoing conflict has escalated the situation to an even more worrying level for our region.”

“The UN Security Council Is No Longer a Peacekeeping Body, But an Observing Council”

Highlighting that the United Nations (UN) has shifted from being a peacekeeping force to merely an observing council, Hasipoğlu said, “Because permanent members like the US and Russia have veto powers, the Security Council fails to issue binding, preventive decisions that protect oppressed peoples. We witness in meetings of the UN and the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe that might makes right, and no Western or Muslim country goes beyond mere condemnation. We saw this before in Bosnia, and most painfully in Gaza, where these bodies fail to make effective decisions.”

He added that as of today, the UN only monitors the attacks conducted by the US-Israel alliance and fails to fulfill its primary duties. He noted that as the conflict between Israel and Iran enters its tenth day, the UN continues to sit on the sidelines.

“The Turkish Cypriot People Have Also Paid a Price”

Hasipoğlu stated:

“As Turkish Cypriots, we have experienced this same situation both on the ground and at the negotiation table. The UN’s observer role and Security Council resolutions during the Greek Cypriot attacks prior to 1974 are well documented. Likewise, since the start of federation talks in 1979, no solution has been achieved due to the Greek Cypriot side’s intransigence and the UN’s structural shortcomings. The UN, which witnessed Greek Cypriot atrocities before 1974, rewarded the side that said ‘No’ to every plan and proposal presented at the negotiating table, instead of granting the Turkish Cypriot people, who said ‘Yes,’ their rightful value and status. In other words, the UN has avoided making a final determination in the negotiation process and has consistently pursued a solution that protects the Greek Cypriot ‘comfort zone.’ If the UN, as the sponsor of the talks, had taken the necessary decisions to challenge the Greek Cypriot refusal, perhaps the solution model we desire would have become a reality by now.”

Hasipoğlu Comments on Turkish Foreign Minister Fidan’s OIC Message

He said, “As the world, especially our region, increasingly turns into a ring of fire, we have once again witnessed that the sole guarantor and greatest supporter of the Turkish Cypriot people is Motherland Turkey, through the recent statements of Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan. Fidan’s inclusion of the Turkish Cypriot people in his opening speech at the 51st Session of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Council of Foreign Ministers, where the TRNC holds observer status, is highly significant and meaningful. By emphasizing the need to break the isolation surrounding the Turkish Cypriot community and calling for direct contact, Minister Fidan reminded the international community of Turkey’s policy on the national cause of Cyprus. On this occasion, we sincerely thank our Motherland Turkey and Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, who never hesitate to raise our just cause on every platform, and we believe the OIC will further enhance its economic, political, and cultural relations with the TRNC and the Turkish Cypriot people.”

“Greek Cypriot Side Endangers Security of Entire Island”

Hasipoğlu warned, “The Greek Cypriot leadership, especially Christodoulidis, through recent military agreements, armament activities, and unilateral actions with certain countries, has placed the entire island of Cyprus under serious threat. By opening the island to the American-Israeli alliance, they now put the whole island at risk. As Turkish Cypriots, we know very well that the Greek Cypriot side does not differ from Israel, which views us as a common enemy. We are now facing a ruthless mentality that sees us as a minority on this island, refuses to recognize us as equals, and aims to eliminate us in our ancestral homeland, much like what has happened to Palestinians in Gaza.”

He drew attention to the Republic of Cyprus opening its ports to countries including the US, Israel, and France, saying, “Cyprus is a powder keg, but the strong Republic of Turkey remains the guarantee of our people.”

Speaking as a witness to missile impacts in the Famagusta region, Hasipoğlu expressed concern about feeling the war so close. He emphasized that those who failed to understand during past federation talks—especially at Crans Montana—why the Greek Cypriot side insisted on a system without Turkey’s effective and active guarantees and military presence must now appreciate the importance of the guarantee system.

He concluded, “The Greek Cypriot-Israeli mentality views us as a minority and embodies the mentality of ‘you will be next.’ Therefore, those who want to restart these processes, as in the past, must carefully analyze and internalize the recent wars and genocides. Considering recent developments, the continuity of Turkey’s effective and active guarantee remains the UBP’s red line. We stress that as long as we hold authority, we will continue to defend the existence and security of our people.”
