Fires Cause Damage in Güzelyurt, Haspolat and Akdoğan

Three separate fires broke out yesterday in Güzelyurt, Haspolat and Akdoğan, resulting in material damage to agricultural areas, vehicles and commercial property.

Fire in Güzelyurt Citrus Grove
In the Derevasyon area of Güzelyurt, a fire erupted around 11:30 a.m. in a citrus grove, reportedly triggered by sparks caused by contact between overhead power lines. The sparks ignited dry grass beneath the lines.
According to police, the fire was extinguished by firefighters, but not before it destroyed 30 metres of irrigation tubing, 10 bundles of saplings, one olive tree and surrounding dry grass.
Vehicle Fire in Haspolat
At around 2:30 p.m. in Haspolat, a bulldozer operated by Serdar Sancaktar caught fire, likely due to an electrical short circuit in the engine compartment. The blaze was brought under control by fire crews.
The fire caused damage to various engine components, the rear cabin’s plastic cover, brake lights, and the rear-view camera system.
Storage Fire in Akdoğan
In Akdoğan, at approximately 8:30 p.m., a fire broke out on a plot adjacent to a furniture store on Zübeyde Hanım Street. The cause of the blaze has not yet been determined.
The fire spread to a storage area behind the shop, destroying 20 upholstery foams, a manicure-pedicure machine, a sofa set, and a water pump. Firefighters extinguished the blaze, and police have launched an investigation into the incident.
