Christodoulides Meets with UN Envoy Stewart

Greek Cypriot leader Nikos Christodoulides met with UN Secretary-General’s Special Representative for Cyprus, Colin Stewart, ahead of Stewart’s planned briefing to the UN Security Council. The meeting took place yesterday afternoon at the Presidential Palace in Nicosia.

According to reports in Fileleftheros and Haravgi newspapers, Government Spokesperson Konstantinos Letymbiotis stated that the meeting was held in light of Stewart’s upcoming presentation of reports related to the UN’s Good Offices mission and the UN peacekeeping force in Cyprus.
Letymbiotis described the discussion as constructive, noting that it included an exchange of views regarding the anticipated multilateral conference on Cyprus.
He also noted that Stewart briefed Christodoulides on his recent meeting with the European Commission’s Cyprus Envoy, Johannes Hahn. In return, Christodoulides reiterated the importance of making progress on the six issues agreed upon during the previous multilateral meeting in Geneva, stressing the need to achieve tangible outcomes.
