Nicosia Traffic Accidents and Violations Surge Between 2023 and 2025

Erkut Efendi, Head of the Criminal Branch at Nicosia Police Department, shared striking data on traffic accidents and violations occurring between September 18, 2023, and June 27, 2025.

During this period, a total of 17,085 traffic accidents were recorded within Nicosia’s jurisdiction. Of these, 17 resulted in fatalities and 436 in injuries. Fatal accidents were logged as 3 in 2023, 10 in 2024, and 4 in 2025.

Traffic enforcement efforts led to reports filed against 67,173 individuals for various traffic offenses. Among them, 1,179 were charged with drunk driving, with annual figures showing 312 in 2023, 686 in 2024, and 180 in 2025.

Efendi noted that the population in Nicosia was around 98,000 in 2011 but has since significantly increased, contributing to higher traffic density. He also stated that the police force in the region consists of 543 officers, with a total personnel count of 784 including civilian staff.
