Speaking after a late-night Party Assembly meeting, Çeler said, “TDP has once again shown that it stands with the people. This decision marks an important step toward a brighter future for our society.”
Çeler emphasized that, in light of global developments and the country’s ongoing social, economic, and political crises, the first round of the presidential election will be critical. “Just as it has in the past, TDP is ready to contribute to this process with its ideas, experience, and staff. The Party Assembly has granted me full authority to coordinate with CTP and Tufan Erhürman. Our aim is to establish the strongest possible electoral alliance,” he said.
“We Are Here to Make the People Winners Again”
Çeler stressed that it is time for the Turkish Cypriot community to stop losing and start winning. “Our struggle will continue after the election to bring a solution to our island,” he stated. He added that TDP will maintain its autonomy, identity, and political character while contributing to the process, and underscored the need for all pro-peace and pro-solution forces to act together.
“We Cannot Afford to Be Divided”
“The Turkish Cypriot people cannot afford further division, whether among political parties or individuals,” Çeler said. “We will learn from the past, not remain stuck in it, and together with our people, we will build a brighter tomorrow. TDP has once again proven that it listens to the voice of its people,” he concluded.
His statement is being seen as the first concrete step toward uniting the opposition around a joint presidential candidate.
