Çeler: Partnership with CTP Will Go Beyond Presidential Election

Speaking on Kıbrıs Postası TV’s “Sabahın Haberleri” programme hosted by Canan Onurer, Çeler emphasized that this cooperation will not be limited to the upcoming presidential election, but will also extend to future local and general elections.

“We Took on a Responsibility That Unites Society, Not Divides Votes”

Çeler stated that the current political context is shaping into a two-candidate presidential race. “Just as in the past, TDP is ready to contribute to this process with its ideas, personnel, and experience. Our Party Assembly has granted me full authority to coordinate with CTP and its leader Tufan Erhürman. Our goal is to establish the most ideal electoral partnership,” he said.

Emphasizing that this decision marks TDP’s commitment to uniting with the public rather than dividing votes, Çeler noted: “We will build a brighter future together with our people, learning from the past without remaining stuck in it. Once again, TDP has proven that it listens to the voice of its people.”

“This Alliance Shouldn’t Be Limited to Supporting CTP’s Presidential Candidate”

Çeler said he is likely to meet with Erhürman today to finalise details of the alliance and officially launch the joint election campaign. He stressed that this cooperation should not be limited to merely supporting Erhürman’s candidacy, but should also involve coordination during the presidential term and collaboration in governance afterwards.

He also noted that the alliance could expand through cooperation in municipalities governed by social democratic policies. “This is not just about backing Erhürman; it’s about laying the groundwork for joint action,” he said.

“We Made This Decision for Society, Not Against It”

Stating that the decision was made “not despite the public, but for the public,” Çeler underscored that this alliance is crucial for overcoming past traumas and addressing the setbacks experienced by society over the past five years. He added that this process is not a negotiation, but an effort to establish a serious foundation for cooperation.

“TDP Aims Not Just to Enter Parliament, But to Be Part of Government”

Concluding his remarks, Çeler said that TDP’s objective is not merely to enter parliament with a few MPs, but to eventually take part in governing. He described the path opened by this alliance as a realistic step towards that long-term goal.
