Republic of Cyprus Slams MEP Panayiotou Over Interview with Tatar

The Republic of Cyprus has strongly criticised Greek Cypriot MEP and YouTuber Fidias Panayiotou for interviewing Turkish Cypriot leader Ersin Tatar at the Presidential Palace in the TRNC for his YouTube channel.

Government spokesperson Konstantinos Letymbiotis accused Panayiotou of participating in actions that serve the TRNC’s narrative. Calling the behaviour “regrettable,” Letymbiotis noted that Panayiotou is an elected MEP and claimed the interview violated UN resolutions while aiding TRNC propaganda.
He stressed that the Cyprus issue is a national matter above political divisions, adding, “If Mr Panayiotou were an MEP from another state, the Republic of Cyprus would have taken very strong diplomatic action.”
