Atlı: Protecting Children Is a Shared Responsibility

Mine Atlı, a lawyer and member of the Central Executive Committee of the Communal Democracy Party (TDP), has underlined the importance of safeguarding children, stating that protecting children is not only a duty, but a shared human responsibility. Her comments followed reports of a child under state protection being subjected to abuse at SOS Children’s Village.

Atlı: Protecting Children Is a Shared Responsibility

In a written statement, Atlı said the recent incident serves as a serious test of the effectiveness and functionality of the “child protection mechanisms” in place. Referring to the reported case of sexual abuse, she stressed the importance of upholding standards of justice throughout the investigation process.

Atlı noted that for a child — especially one in an institution — to speak out about sexual violence is both extremely difficult and extraordinarily brave. “The very existence of such a disclosure is an indication that the institution in question is implementing child protection policies effectively and offering a safe environment for the child,” she said.

“Every Child, Woman and Individual Has the Right to Equal Access to Justice”

Atlı emphasized that the responsibility now lies with law enforcement. She called for any statement made by a child or woman regarding sexual violence to be treated with utmost seriousness, supported by a swift, effective, and impartial investigation process.

She concluded by reaffirming that it is the collective moral and human obligation of society to protect children and ensure justice without compromise.
