Mayor Kırok: Water Supply Still Inadequate Despite Price Hikes

In a statement shared via social media, Kırok said, “Despite the recent hikes in water prices, unfortunately, a sufficient amount of water is not reaching the storage facilities for residents and businesses in the region. Despite our repeated warnings, the Ministry of Agriculture has neither taken any measures on this vital issue nor felt the need to issue a public explanation.”

“Action Must Be Taken Without Delay”

Kırok reminded that the water transported from Turkey is distributed to municipal storage tanks by the State Hydraulic Works (DSİ), and continued:

“The amount of water being delivered to our region is inadequate. We have identified the necessary precautions and communicated our requests to the relevant authorities. Despite repeatedly stating that the supply is insufficient, we have been met with various excuses, and a lasting solution has yet to be found.

In Çatalköy and Esentepe—areas that are part of a tourism region—neither residential homes nor hotels are receiving adequate water; current resources are severely lacking. This situation poses not only immediate problems but also the potential for far more serious issues in the near future, as several hotels currently under construction are expected to be completed within the next 3 to 5 months. Once operational, these facilities will further strain the region’s water supply and infrastructure. Based on our proposed solutions, it is imperative that all relevant institutions begin working without delay.”
