Arıklı: Parliament Will Convene Several Times During Summer Recess

Rebirth Party (YDP) leader and Minister of Public Works and Transport, Erhan Arıklı, has stated that Prime Minister Ünal Üstel will ensure Parliament convenes multiple times during the summer recess and noted that the internal crisis within the UBP could potentially lead to early general elections.

Speaking on Kıbrıs TV, Arıklı also confirmed that his party is preparing for both the presidential elections and a possible early general election.
"Parliament to Meet Several Times Over Summer to Pass Laws"
Praising Prime Minister Üstel as an experienced politician, Arıklı said Üstel is expected to overcome the ongoing internal tensions within the UBP and that Parliament would convene a few times over the summer to pass pending legislation. Arıklı emphasized that the current government is the most stable in the country’s history, having been in power for 36 months. “This government has passed more laws than any other. Committees are working diligently. Nine laws were expected to pass on Monday, but unfortunately, that didn’t happen,” he said.
He reiterated that this is the most productive and long-lasting government to date and attributed occasional problems to communication gaps rather than structural instability.
"Crisis in UBP Could Lead to Early Elections"
Arıklı said they are closely monitoring the steps Prime Minister Üstel will take to restore discipline within the UBP following his visit to Turkey. “The crisis within the UBP could trigger an early general election,” he warned.
Stressing the unpredictable nature of politics, Arıklı said, “In politics, 24 hours is a long time, but five years goes by very quickly. Hopefully, the crisis within the UBP will be resolved without the need for early elections, but we cannot rule out that possibility.”
"We Are Preparing for Both Presidential and General Elections"
Arıklı stated that YDP views the upcoming presidential election as part of a broader preparation for a potential early general election. He said a committee chaired by Turan Büyükyılmaz is managing the party’s electoral strategy. Without looking to other parties, YDP will nominate its own candidate. “We’re hitting the ground, focusing on our own agenda. As the presidential campaign continues, we’re also actively preparing for a possible general election,” he concluded.
