Erhürman: “We Will Govern Together and Dispel Despair”

Republican Turkish Party (CTP) leader and presidential candidate Tufan Erhürman declared that his party’s slogan “We will govern together” will gain broader momentum, vowing to overcome the prevailing sense of despair in the country.

Speaking on North Cyprus TV, Erhürman said, “There is no reason to be hopeless. I trust this people, the people of this land. They are the source of my confidence.”
“Every Passing Day Is a Day Stolen From the Future”
Addressing public distrust in state institutions, Erhürman referred to recent data from the Statistics Institute, stating, “This is not unique to the institute. There is a broader erosion of trust in public administration.” He emphasized that the country is facing a collapsed system, one which has effectively declared its own failure.
Criticizing the failed attempt to hold early elections, Erhürman said, “The claim that ‘there will be no early elections before the presidential vote’ has paralyzed both politics and the country.” He argued that recent developments in the Assembly revealed that the current structure has run its course, and the only viable path forward is change. “Every day we lose is a day stolen from this country’s future,” he said, urging rapid preparation for change at both the government and presidential levels.
“We Will Govern Together Based on Merit”
Referring to the delayed vote on a law concerning paid military service on the Assembly’s final day, Erhürman said, “It was urgent, and they still shelved it. This is the sign of a dysfunctional system. What appears to be functioning is, in fact, not.” He criticized those who damage institutional structures daily while still delivering speeches on statehood, adding, “The Presidency remains oblivious to it all.”
Erhürman asserted that the public is ready for change and that the people have already made up their minds. Citing the lack of tangible achievements over the past four and a half years, he said: “Not even a transitional point was opened during this time. If you look at what has been accomplished, there’s nothing concrete. The public’s demand for change is clear.”
Thanking Communal Democracy Party (TDP) leader Zeki Çeler, Nicosia Mayor Mehmet Harmancı, and the entire TDP community, Erhürman described their support as “a very important decision” for his campaign.
“We Must Govern With All Competent People of This Country”
Highlighting the severe problems facing the country, Erhürman said: “The challenges have been magnified and diversified so much that no political party can claim to solve them with its own cadres alone. Every party must internalize this: we must govern together, based on merit, with all the capable people of this nation.”
Erhürman reiterated that the spirit of joint governance would expand further: “Caring about this country, being patriotic, loving its people, believing in democracy and human rights — we will walk with such people and govern together, based on merit.”
He noted that TDP’s support had significantly boosted public morale and strengthened hope. “We must nurture and grow this hope together. We will win together and govern together. The key is to create and sustain hope,” he said.
“There is widespread unhappiness in this country. We will dispel this despair. With our experienced people, we’ve accomplished much in the past, and we can do it again — by working and governing together. With the right vision and effort, we can get things done in this country. We will bring together this society’s skilled individuals based on merit. There is no reason to lose hope. I trust the people of this land. They are the source of my confidence,” Erhürman concluded.
