Speaking on Kanal Sim, Erhürman underlined his commitment to governance based on merit and inclusive leadership.

“The Street Is Ready for Change”

Erhürman criticised the current administration, claiming that there is no functioning coalition and suggesting that the government would call for early elections if left to its own devices. “They act like they just want it to be over,” he said, adding that the ruling structure is unmotivated and directionless.

Referring to constant rumours of cabinet reshuffles, he argued the government is merely in survival mode and lacks a strategic agenda. “Merit has been eroded in the civil service, education is directionless, healthcare faces enormous problems, and people are dying in traffic accidents—none of these are on their radar,” Erhürman said. He also criticised the ongoing uncertainty surrounding military service exemptions, stressing that the current administration has nothing left to offer.

“People are managing perception, but it’s clear the country isn’t being governed,” he added. “The streets are ready for change and are waiting for the ballot. The will for change will be reflected in the 19 October election.”

“We Will Govern Based on Merit”

Erhürman said the first step after the October elections would be to present a clear will for a solution, not only for resolving the Cyprus issue but also for creating a sense of predictability in governance. “That’s how our youth will reconnect with international law, and the overall economy will also benefit from increased stability,” he said.

Referring to UN envoy Maria Angela Holguín’s current visit to the island, Erhürman welcomed the continuation of dialogue. “Even if I don’t expect much substance from the talks, diplomacy and dialogue are always better than none,” he noted. “Some may ask why we're going to Geneva or New York just to open one or two crossing points, but even that keeps the process alive. The dialogue links the past to the future, and both sides understand this.”

Emphasising his long-standing “We Will Govern Together” slogan, Erhürman said no single political party can solve all the country’s problems alone. “We will govern this country with competent people from all sectors of society, based on merit. We will work together—and lead together—with the skilled individuals this country has produced,” he concluded.
