27 Fires in One Week Cause Over 5 Million TL in Damages

A total of 27 fires and 24 special service incidents were recorded across the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) in the past week, resulting in estimated damages amounting to 5,108,000 TL.

According to the weekly report issued by the Fire Department, the incidents occurred between 30 June and 6 July. The fires alone led to significant financial loss, highlighting ongoing risks during the hot and dry summer season.
The report lists the most likely causes of the fires as electrical short circuits, carelessly discarded cigarette butts, sparks from electrical wires coming into contact and igniting dry grass, fuel leaks in vehicle engines dripping onto hot surfaces, gas leaks, and landfill fires spreading to nearby dry vegetation.
The 24 special service incidents during the same period included fire safety precautions, rescuing individuals trapped in elevators, freeing cats stuck in car engines and air conditioning units, retrieving a sheep that had fallen into a well, ensuring road safety, and assisting in the transfer of deceased individuals to hospitals for forensic investigations.
