Basın-Sen: We Will Not Be Silent Until Kutlu Adalı’s Killers Are Held Accountable in Court

The Press Workers’ Union (Basın-Sen) issued a statement on the anniversary of journalist and writer Kutlu Adalı’s death, condemning the continued lack of justice as a “black mark on democracy.”

Basın-Sen General Secretary İsmet Özgüren, speaking on behalf of the union’s board, paid tribute to Adalı, who was murdered in a shooting attack due to his writings for the Yenidüzen newspaper.
The statement emphasized that despite the widely known identity of the killers, their failure to face justice remains a disgrace for the country and a stain on democracy. It noted that the bullets that killed Adalı targeted not only a person but also freedom of expression.
Özgüren vowed that the union will not remain silent until those responsible are brought to justice, pledging to continue the fight to shed light on the dark crime and defend freedom of expression.
The statement concluded with the declaration “Adalı lives on!” underscoring Basın-Sen’s commitment to persist in the struggle for press freedom.
