The memorial ceremony was organized by the Kutlu Adalı Foundation and Yenidüzen newspaper. Attendees included Adalı’s family, CTP leader and presidential candidate Tufan Erhürman, CTP deputies, representatives of various organizations, and supporters.

CTP leader Tufan Erhürman emphasized the long-standing struggle for democracy, human rights, and press freedom in the country. He noted that this fight is fundamentally about living with dignity and leaving that legacy for future generations. Erhürman recalled that Adalı paid one of the heaviest prices for this struggle 29 years ago and stressed the importance of passing on this legacy to younger generations.

Yenidüzen General Manager and Editor-in-Chief Mert Özdağ highlighted that the demand for justice for Adalı has continued for 29 years. He stated that they gathered to denounce the perpetrators and the mentality behind the murder. Özdağ also mentioned the lack of clarity about any ongoing investigation and recalled Adalı’s July 4, 1996 article titled “Sopa ve Sıpa,” urging people to read it to understand Adalı’s views.

Basın-Sen President Ali Kişmir noted that those who knew Adalı and his work are aging or absent from the ceremony. He stressed the need to educate new generations about Adalı’s investigative journalism and to cultivate more journalists like him, emphasizing the importance of fearless and principled journalism.

Adalı’s daughter, İl Adalı, read a poem her father wrote six months before his death and announced the re-publication of his book “Dağarcık,” written when he was 28. She also shared that while compiling 500 letters left by her father for another book, she rediscovered him.

The ceremony concluded with the laying of flowers on Kutlu Adalı’s grave.
