Tolun: Lower AJet Fares a Major Gain for Tourism

Orhan Tolun, President of the Cyprus Turkish Travel and Tourism Agencies Association (KITSAB), described the reduction in ticket prices under the new THY and AJet agreement as a “significant gain for both tourism and the public.”

Speaking on Kıbrıs Postası TV, Tolun said the newly signed protocol between Turkish Airlines (THY), AJet, and the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) is “a very positive and welcome development.” He noted that London–Cyprus airfares had previously soared up to €1000, but will now drop to €250 under the new initiative, marking a major improvement for citizens and the tourism sector alike.
He also welcomed the price cap on Turkey–TRNC AJet flights, saying, “Round-trip fares will not exceed 6,000 TL. At times, we couldn’t even find tickets for less than 16,000 TL. This step will positively impact our citizens, tourists, and agencies organizing outbound tours.”
Flights Cheaper, Promotion Stronger with ‘Ada Kıbrıs’ Project
The fare reductions are part of the “Ada Kıbrıs” project, a collaboration between THY, AJet, and TRNC authorities. Under the protocol, AJet flights between Turkey and the TRNC will be capped at 6,000 TL for round trips. In addition, regular shuttle flights from Turkey’s major cities to the TRNC will be introduced.
A promotional launch event will be held in London on 26 July. Following the launch, tickets on the London (Stansted)–Ercan route will be sold at €250, with three daily flights planned.
60 TRNC Youth to Be Employed as Cabin Crew
As part of the project’s employment component, AJet will hire 60 TRNC citizens as cabin crew, creating new career opportunities in aviation for local youth.
“Cyprus Is Not Just a Gambling Destination”
Tolun also stressed the importance of diversifying tourism in the TRNC. “Cyprus is not just a country of casinos,” he said. “Through Ada Kıbrıs, we are showcasing the richness of our island in health, gastronomy, and faith tourism, and promoting our culture.”
He added that promotional efforts are ongoing with the support of Turkey’s Ministry of Culture and Tourism.
