Fidan Meets Guterres: Upcoming Informal Cyprus Meeting Discussed

Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan met with United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres in Rio de Janeiro on the sidelines of the 17th BRICS Leaders’ Summit. The meeting addressed the upcoming informal talks on the Cyprus issue, among other key topics.

According to a statement shared by the Turkish Foreign Ministry on social media platform X, the meeting took place in Rio during the BRICS summit.
In a separate statement, the UN Spokesperson's Office said, “The Secretary-General and the Minister discussed the strong partnership between the United Nations and Turkey.”
It was also noted that the two officials exchanged views on the situations in Ukraine and the Middle East, as well as the next informal meeting on Cyprus.
The UN previously announced that an informal Cyprus meeting will be held on 16–17 July at its headquarters in New York, bringing together key stakeholders.
