South Cyprus Moves Closer to Schengen with Visa Information System Law
The House of Representatives General Assembly in South Cyprus approved a law on the operation and use of the Visa Information System (VIS) with 27 votes in favor and 10 abstentions.
The law aims to align South Cyprus with the Schengen acquis. It establishes a new national Visa Information System and plans to integrate this system with Europe’s central data system once the country completes its accession to the Schengen Area.
Additionally, the law strengthens the implementation of the EU Visa Code. It regulates visa application processes at the external borders of the South Cyprus Administration and ensures the connection of the Visa Information System with other security systems such as the Entry/Exit System and national watchlists.
