Erdoğan Hails 'New Era' in Turkey’s Fight Against Terror

President and the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) leader Recep Tayyip Erdoğan delivered the closing address at his party’s 32nd Consultation and Evaluation Meeting in the capital Ankara on Sunday, declaring that Turkey is entering a new era on its path to becoming a “terror‑free state.”

Erdoğan praised the decorum and professionalism of the two‑day event. “Our camp this year was more organised, more professional—from our enthusiastic anthem to other arrangements,” he noted, thanking staff, local hosts, security forces, and media for their dedication amid sweltering weather.
The president expressed that the AKP continues to evolve its internal processes. “We are constantly competing with ourselves. This is how we will carry forward,” he said, adding that ministers and party members had shared their views across numerous workshops addressing domestic and national challenges.
“The progress made toward a terror‑free Turkey naturally stood out in our discussions. This milestone will guide our plans and policies,” Erdoğan said. He declared that a “sacred journey” had reached a new stage, with “the doors of a new era” now opening for Turkey.
On Friday, he referenced the disarmament steps taken by the PKK, stating it marked “the brink of freeing the country from the shackles of terror”. He underlined that credible progress was being tracked on the ground, and that Parliament’s commission – led by the Speaker – was now best positioned to deliver positive updates.
Erdoğan warned against stalling the peace process. “No one has the right to sabotage or impede this vital process. Politics can be remedied—but not if the peace of 86 million people is at stake. My nation will not forgive that.”
He said Turkey was on the verge of eradicating "half‑century terror," aided by collective patience and divine blessing. He compared the effort to reclaim resources from counter‑terrorism to freeing funds for retirees, farmers, civil servants, entrepreneurs, and housewives—as well as enhanced education, hospitals, and factories.
Emphasizing inclusion, Erdoğan appealed for the participation of all political parties in the process: “If this is in the interests of our nation, we will speak with everyone. Criticism is welcome as long as it serves the country.” He said the new phase demands responsibility not just from the AK Party, MHP, and DEM Party but from all Turkey’s political forces.
He framed the peace initiative as part of a broader civilizational and national mission: “We are not playing petty politics. We represent the politics of our country and civilization.”
Responding to accusations of “religious unity,” Erdoğan defended the concept as a moral imperative, not political ideology. He addressed critics, asking whether unity among Turks, Kurds, and Arabs was wrong and rebuked them for accusing his movement unjustly. “Defending our unity is a dignified spiritual stand,” he affirmed.
Believers around the world were said to be praying for Turkey— in Gaza, Jerusalem, Iraq, and Somalia. He emphasized that Turkey now carries the hopes of millions, and invoked the "Century of Turkey” vision.
Erdoğan challenged his party and supporters to earn public trust: “Either we live up to these prayers and responsibilities—or we will cause heartbreak.” He declared that “not only Turkey, but all eyes across the Muslim world are on this leadership.”
He urged humility, consultation, and clear communication with citizens about the reasons and goals behind each move. “Humility will elevate us before our people,” he concluded.
PKK is listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the United States and the European Union.
