Informal Cyprus Talks Begin in New York with High-Level Dinner

The informal expanded-format meeting on the Cyprus issue officially began in New York with a high-level dinner held at the United Nations Headquarters. The gathering, scheduled for July 16–17, opened with a dinner at the "Delegates Dining Room" on the fourth floor of the UN building.

The dinner, marking the opening phase of the two-day meeting, was attended by Turkish Cypriot leader Ersin Tatar, accompanied by his Special Representative Güneş Onar. UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres was joined at the table by his Under-Secretary-General for Political and Peacebuilding Affairs, Rosemary DiCarlo, and his Personal Envoy on Cyprus, María Ángela Holguín.

The seating was arranged with two separate tables. At the main table were UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, Rosemary DiCarlo, María Holguín, Turkish Cypriot leader Ersin Tatar, Greek Cypriot leader Nikos Christodoulides, Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, Greek Foreign Minister Giorgos Gerapetritis, and the UK's Minister of State for Europe and North America Stephen Doughty.

At the second table were the leaders’ special representatives Güneş Onar and Menelaos Menelaou, UNFICYP Head of Mission Colin Stewart, Turkish Deputy Foreign Minister Mehmet Kemal Bozay, Greek Deputy Foreign Minister Alexandra Papadopoulou, and British High Commissioner Michael Tatham.
