In a written statement following the summit, Akpınar also acknowledged the firm backing provided by Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan and highlighted the constructive and solution-oriented stance of the Turkish Cypriot side.

He pointed to “significant progress” made on the issue of opening four new crossing points, noting that this demonstrated the goodwill and pragmatic approach of the Turkish Cypriot delegation. Akpınar said that progress on various technical matters—from the youth committee and environmental concerns to the preservation of shared heritage—could help foster intercommunal trust and ease daily life on the island.

However, Akpınar criticized the Greek Cypriot side for putting forward “unreasonable demands” related to military and security issues, saying such impositions had obstructed progress. Despite this, he praised the Turkish Cypriot team’s firm and balanced position, stating that “our people’s just cause was once again represented with strength on the international stage.”

Looking ahead to the next round of talks expected in September, Akpınar emphasized the need for “genuine political will and mutual respect” as a basis for seeking a fair solution.

He concluded by reaffirming the Democratic Party’s commitment to continue its diplomatic efforts until the Turkish Cypriot people achieve the international status and recognition they rightfully deserve.
