Arıklı: This Is My Final Term in Politics

Minister of Public Works and Transport and Yeniden Doğuş Partisi (YDP) leader Erhan Arıklı has announced that he is serving his final term in politics and plans to return to academic life at the age of 65.

Speaking on the programme Kıbrıs’ta Sabah on Kıbrıs TV, hosted by Eda Sinanoğlu, Arıklı said early parliamentary elections are likely to be discussed in January or February 2026, with local elections expected by the end of that year.
Arıklı noted that YDP would intensify its outreach through public meetings and home visits, adding that, in terms of membership, YDP is the second largest political party in the country, with around 12,000 members.
“I made a promise to myself,” said Arıklı. “This is my final term. When I leave politics, I want to leave behind a successful party. I told my family I would quit at 65 and return to academic life. I remain committed to that decision.”
Arıklı also pointed out that lighting and signage have yet to be completed on the North Nicosia Ring Road. “The road is excellent,” he said, “but drive carefully and slowly.”
