Three Men Caught With Guns and Ammunition Remanded for Eight More Days

Hasan Çaylı, Samet Acar and Mehmet Sabri Acar, who were caught in Nicosia with firearms and ammunition, will remain in custody for eight more days as the investigation continues.

The trio, charged with illegal possession of firearms and explosives, were brought back before the court.
Police officer Fırat Uğuroğlu told the court that on 31 July 2025, around 8:00 p.m., Hasan Çaylı left a Kaçkar ARX-3 9mm pistol with a magazine containing five MKE 23 9 P rounds at the base of a tree on Lefkoşa’s Northern Bypass. Samet Acar and Mehmet Sabri Acar allegedly arrived in a vehicle to collect it, at which point they were caught in the act and arrested.
A search of the Acars’ residence uncovered another pistol — a Retay 9mm — with a loaded magazine containing nine 7.65mm rounds, along with 225 rounds of 9mm ammunition and 150 rounds of 7.65mm ammunition hidden in the kitchen.
Çaylı has reportedly given a voluntary statement admitting involvement, but police said this must be corroborated. Ballistic tests on the seized weapons and ammunition are under way, and further witness statements and CCTV footage still need to be collected.
The judge ordered all three suspects to remain in custody for an additional eight days.
